Research into institutions and distributors:
Revolver Entertainment:
Revolver entertainment is a marketing-lead, all rights film distribution company that was founded in 1917. It has operations in both London and Los Angeles. One thing that revolver is well-known for would be the promotional stunts that they host. Examples of this would be the Zombie gathering in Leicester Square, in which they tried to beat the world record for this as a promotional stunt for their film ‘The Zombie Diaries’. Another example would be the fact that they were superimposing the facers of political leaders onto Kidulthood billboards in London. One of their most recent successes would be the action thriller Shank. Revolver entertainment films are usually distributed by Magnolia home entertainment.
Paramount Pictures:
Paramount Pictures Corporation is an American film and television production/distribution company located in Hollywood. It was founded in 1912 and is currently owned by media conglomerate Viscom, it is the second oldest existing film studio in America. It is also the last major film studio that is still headquartered in the Hollywood district of Los Angeles. Paramount Pictures is continuously ranked as one of the largest (top-grossing) movie studios.
Paramount Pictures has been quite successful over the years as they have come up with film hits such as ‘iron man’ and ‘paranormal activity 2’.
Universal studios:
Universal pictures is a subsidiary of NBC universal, it is one of the six major movie studios. It was founded in 1912 by Carl Laemmle; it is the oldest American movie studio that is still in continuous production. The next oldest would be Paramount Pictures. On May 11th, 2003, the controlling stake in the company was sold by Vivendi Universal to General Electric who are the parents of NBC. This resulted in a media super-conglomerate which was renamed as NBC Universal. Universal Studios Inc. however still kept its name. Universal studios not only owned a sizable film library spanning the earliest decades of cinema to more contemporary works but also owns a sizable collections of TV shows through its subsidiary NBC Universal Television Distribution. It also managed to acquire right to several prominent filmmakers’ works that were originally released by other studios through its subsidiaries over the years.
Universal studios have been quite successful over the years as they have come up with film hits like ‘Jaws’. ‘Jurassic Park’, ‘back to the future’ and ‘E.T. the extra-terrestrial’.
20th century fox:
20 century fox or the fox film corporation is one of the six major American film studios as of 2011. It is located in the Century City area of Los Angeles. The company was formed on May 31st, 1935 as a result of the merger of ‘Fox Film Corporation’ (which was founded by William Fox in 1915) and ‘Twentieth Century Pictures’ (which was founded by Darryl F Zanuck, Joseph Schenck, Raymond Griffith and William Goetz). Fox had formed the ‘Fox Film Corporation’ by merging two companies he had established in 1913 (‘the Greater New York film rental’ and ‘Fox Office Attractions Company’). The Greater New York Film Rental Company was a distribution company where as the Fox Office Attractions Company was a production company.
20th Century Fox has produced film hits such as ‘The A-Team’, ‘Big Mommas: Like Father Like Son’ and ‘X Men: First Class’.
Warner Bros:
Harry, Albert, Sam and Jack Wonskolaser founded the Warner Bro’s company on the 4th April 1923. Warner Bro’s is one of the major film studios; it is a subsidiary of Time Warner, with its headquarters in Burbank, California and New York. Warner Bros has several subsidiary companies, including Warner Bros Studios, Warner Bros Pictures, Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment, Warner Bros Television, Warner Bros Animation, Warner Home Video, New Line Cinema, TheWB.com, and DC Comics. Warner owns half of The CW Television Network.
Warner Bros has produced films hits such as ‘The Book of Eli’, ‘Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows- Part 1’ and ‘The Hangover Part 2’.
Character Profiles
Our two main characters are called Cavell & Damien, their character profiles are as follows,
Characters in the piece:
Cavell
This is the main character and focus in the piece. His mum passed away of a long-term illness she was battling with. He is now living with his girlfriend in a flat. Damien is his best friend more like a brother. Cavell is trapped in the life of gang culture and goes day by day making money by typically selling drugs. As well as selling drugs he wants to go to University, so he does an apprenticeship at college studying Engineering.
Damien
This is Cavell’s best friend more like a brother to him. He supports and cares for Cavell ever since his mum died. He also is trapped in the life of gang culture and sells drugs like Cavell. He is the older of the two friends. He is quite talented at football and is at college studying sport.
Both characters want a better life; they are just finding ways to better themselves.
Our target audience is teenagers/young people aged 16-24. The film opening will captivate a visual element of the life of one of the many troubled teenagers that live in the capital. The film age rating we are looking for our opening to recieve is a 15.
Brainstorm For Main Task
Brainstorm:
Idea for ‘Opening Sequence’
Genre – Drama
We have come up with an idea of an average London teenage boy that has been trapped in the life of gang culture. His Mum has recently passed away and he is living by himself or with girlfriend in a flat.
In this opening sequence we will see him getting ready for what appears to be just another day. The opening sequence will provide visual elements of the boy waking up, having a shower and or washing face/brushing teeth, getting dressed and leaving the house to meet his friend who has come to pick him up in the car. There will a short dialogue between the boy and his friend, giving the audience enough information about the boys situation and to know a little bit about the storyline before the pair drive off in a car.

Take Me Out Remix
As our classmates enjoyed our preliminary task so much we decided that we wanted to make it public. We took our original footage and infused it with ITV’s show “Take Me Out” which is a UK dating show. In order for this to work we had to film additional footage, the location for this was Ben’s house.
It was uploaded to YouTube via our channel “OutreachMediaUK” and was very popular, it currently has over 6,000 views which is outstanding from a first video on a channel. We also have people waiting for our next video attentively.
Here is our new video…
It's complete
Here is our final revision of our preliminary task which incorporates everything we planned it to. Enjoy...

Location
After speaking to the staff in KFC they advised us to come as late as possible as not to interfere with their customers. After gaining this permission KFC was set as our filming location.
Mr Reid had given us the task to create a short piece including one of our characters opening a door, following through the room, sitting across from another character and engage in a conversation. We needed to include an array of different shots including a 2 shot and at least one 180 degree shot. We had to use appropriate editing techniques and justify why we used them. These were the only guidelines we were given, the rest of it was our choice.
Idea
We thought that with the actors and props available to us, a comedic date would be our best theme.
How
Peniel had access to a high quality HD camcorder so we used it to film our task. We made our way to KFC and went through everything one final time before we began filming. We knew that in order to get our continuity editing right we had to film it all on the night so we came prepared with everything we’d need.
Who
The filming was carried out by Peniel and Jonathan. Ben and Taylor would be the main actors and I directed it by ensuring that everything was done how I wanted it to be.
Shooting Schedule
We planned to shoot our preliminary task on Wednesday the 22nd of February. We planned to meet around 5.30 with the option to film later due to the light conditions.
